PRCI, Bangalore Chapter Celebrates Daughter's Day on 1st July 2009

Bangalore, Thursday, July 02, 2009: The Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) - Bangalore Chapter celebrated Daughter’s commemorating late astronaut Kalpana Chawla’s birth anniversary on July 1st at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bangalore. The Chief Guest for the evening was Ms. Meera Saksena, Principal Secretary - Forest, Government of Karnataka and the Guest of Honour Ms. Tara Venu– National Award Winning Actress and Ms. Charlotte Savary, Deputy Commercial Attache, Mission Economique, Consulate General of France, Alliance Francaise. Other distinguished members who graced the occasion included Mr. M.B. Jayaram, Chairman, Emeritus & Chief Mentor – PRCI and Mr. ND Rajpal, President, National Executive, PRCI. Also present on the occasion was Mr. Anil Nayak, Chairman, PRCI-Bangalore. The media partner for the event was DNA and the hospitality partner, The Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.

The occasion was marked by felicitating the winners of the essay competition organized by PRCI for school and college students at a gala event. Ms. Namratha N Pai, Ms. Leela N and Ms Zoya Amar were the first, second and third prize winners respectively, in the 14 to 17 years category while Ms. Gowri K., Ms. Sony R.P. and Ms K Rabia Tabassum were announced winners in the 18 to 23 years category. Ms Shalini Prakash, a seven year old girl was awarded the Special Jury Prize for her essay. Cartoonist Ms Gurjarappa was also given a special prize on the occasion. Ms Meera Saksena, Ms Charolette Savary and Ms Tara gave away the prizes to the winners. Speaking on the occasion Ms. Saksena pointed out the plight of the rural women while Ms Tara insisted that the day is not far when the women would march ahead of men in all respects. Ms Charolette recounted her own experience as a diplomat, stressing that education is the biggest liberator.

Mr. MB Jayaram announced the formation of PRCI Foundation that would support deserving students in their studies. The foundation awarded scholarships to two meritorious students on the occasion. Institute of Business Management and Research also announced scholarships worth Rs 14.5 lakhs for 10 meritorious candidates. The candidates need to apply through PRCI to avail the scholarships.

The awards function was followed shortly by the key highlight of the day- the panel discussion- on “Daughters of Today: Charting a Path beyond Social Benevolence?”. The panel presided by a league of prominent women from the city including Ms. Sadiqa Peerbhoy-Director, Innergy Professional Academy (IPA), MAA House, Ms. Priya Chetty Rajagopal- Principal Consultant (Vice President), Stanton Chase International, Ms. Mythili Krishnamurthy- Managing Director, CanFin Homes Limited, Ms. Revathi Venkatraman- President, AWAKE, Ms. Sheela Krishnaswamy- Renowned Nutritionist and Director-Wellness, ChiHealth, Ms. Kavya Christopher, Head, After Hours, DNA and Ms. Vasanthi Hariprakash, Special Correspondent, NDTV 24X7 was moderated by RJ Anjaan from 94.3 Radio One. The panel stressed the need for greater awareness, education and self reliance among women folk to build a better future and insisted that each one must contribute in their own way for the cause.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Jayaram, Chairman, Emeritus and Chief Mentor, PRCI said, “Our daughters do us proud inspite of all the odds against them. This is our day to celebrate our daughters for the deserving heroes they truly are. We believe that given the right support and encouragement, each daughter can bring out the best in them.”

Giving the welcome address, Mr. Anil Nayak, Chairman, PRCI-Bangalore Chapter said, “Through this event, we wanted to create awareness about the great contributions done by our daughters to the society. We believe that empowered daughters are the greatest gift to the society.”
